How to Juice Ripe Fruits

Only use ripe, healthy fruits for juicing. You can get these cheaply in the main harvest season at the weekly market, from your own garden or from dear friends or relatives who own a garden.

  1. If you want to juice your fruits in a saucepan without a juicer, you should either wash them or - e.g. B. Plums - rub with a cloth.
  2. Then put the fruits in the pot and add approx. 20 % water added.
  3. Let the fruits and water boil for 15-20 minutes.
  4. If you have pitted fruit or fruit without stones, such as B. Currants, raspberries etc. you can puree the mass with a hand blender after the cooking time.

  6. Hang a pasta strainer in a sufficiently large saucepan. Put an old cotton cloth in the pasta sieve. As a result, the hot mass is now filtered off. Depending on the fruit and the consistency of the mass, this filtering process can take a few hours. During this time, cover the mass with a cloth so that it does not attract fruit flies.
  7. When you have cooled down juice If you want to drink directly, you do not need to treat it further. In this condition, the juice can be kept in the refrigerator for about 3 days.
  8. If you preserve the juice obtained in this way and later than syrup If you want to use, you have to boil it again and add 10-20% sugar.
  9. After boiling, fill the juice into glasses or bottles that have been rinsed with hot water. Choose the smallest possible container - the screw cap bottles for barbecue sauces are ideal - so that opened juice bottles can be used up as quickly as possible.

It works without a modern juicer

  1. You can also juice fruit without adding sugar. For this you need an aluminum steam extractor like the one grandma or mom used to use.
  2. Water is poured into the bottom of the steam juicer. Above it hangs an insert - equipped with a sieve - into which the fruit to be juiced is poured.
  3. When the water is boiled, the juice is released from the fruit and can be bottled hot using a tap.
  4. Here, too, the bottles should be rinsed hot and very clean so that microorganisms cannot multiply and the juice spoils.
  5. This type of juicing is only worthwhile if you have a large amount of fruit available. The advantage is that the heat is used for the sterilization and no sugar needs to be added.
