  • In order to harvest a kilo, the pistil threads of almost 200,000 flowers have to be harvested. For these quantities of plants you need a cultivation area of ​​1,000 m2, i.e. a field of approx. 30 m x 30 m side length.
  • A picker can harvest a maximum of 80 g per day, on average you need 15 pickers to harvest one kilo in one day. You surely understand why the price is so high.
  • Also keep in mind that saffron can only be harvested approximately 14 days in autumn, the rest of the year the cultivation area cannot be used.

Depending on the quality and country of origin, you pay between € 9 and € 20 for one gram. The price per kilo is therefore € 9,000 to € 20,000.
