Have you ever seen letters addressed to you missing the sender? What should I do with such anonymous submissions?

There is no obligation to specify the sender when sending letters. Of course, it makes sense to do this so that in case of doubt the letter is sent back to the sender.

Reasons for sending a letter back

  1. There are several reasons to send a letter back. Of course, there must be a sender on it.
  2. It is possible that you do not want to receive any mail from a certain person or institution and refuse to accept it.
  3. The recipient may have moved and the new address cannot be determined. Even then, the letter goes to the sender.
  4. You don't even know the sender of various letters and you don't expect any mail. Do you have a bad feeling? Then return everything unopened to Deutsche Post.
  5. Refuse Post Acceptance Tips

It is up to you whether you accept a post or not. Refuse …

You do this if the sender is missing

  1. Just open the letter and see what's inside. If it is for you then everything is fine.
  2. If it is not for you, then you can throw it away, because once you have opened letters, you cannot return them to the post office postage unpaid. If the sender can be identified inside, it's up to you whether you send everything to him. But for that you would have to stick stamps on it.
  3. If you have any doubts about letters without a sender, then do not even accept them. Refuse to accept the mail at the postman or cross out your address, write "back" on it and into the next yellow mailbox.
  4. They then come to a mail dispatch center of the Deutsche Post, where they are opened to determine the sender, and some of them can then still be delivered. The others are kept for 12 months and then destroyed. Money goes to a special lost property account and valuables are auctioned off.

So if you should ever lose a letter, you can investigate via such a mail broker. You can find out more about the service number of Deutsche Post AG.
