First measures for a cell phone that has gotten wet and no longer works

All of the measures listed below are of course to be carried out by the mobile phone owner at their own risk.

  • Remove the wet cell phone from the liquid as soon as possible and let it drain well. It is best to remove the external liquid with a well absorbent cloth such as kitchen roll. In this state it is probably no longer possible and must be dried as well as possible immediately.
  • Now open the mobile phone immediately and remove the battery. Dry off any visible build-up of fluid inside the phone, but be careful to remove any contacts, etc. not to damage.
  • What kind of liquid did your cell phone fall into? If it's soda, cola, or some other similar sticky liquid, once the phone dries, the buttons will likely stick and stop working. Therefore, in this case you have to weigh up whether you want to rinse the mobile phone again briefly with clear water or accept hanging keys.
  • Now disassemble the cell phone into its individual parts. How exactly your model can be dismantled can usually be found in the operating instructions.

Dry individual parts if the phone is wet and no longer works

  • If the cell phone got wet and doesn't work anymore, the circuit board inside the phone is usually wet. Place the individual parts on a layer of kitchen roll with a little space between them.
  • Either you put the kitchen roll with individual parts on a radiator and set it to the lowest heating level. The mobile phone parts are very sensitive and must not be dried at high temperatures. Let the parts dry like this for several days.
  • Or you can blow-dry the parts on the lowest setting from a greater distance. Here, too, you have to make sure that the temperature on the components does not get very high. Then let the parts dry on the kitchen roll for several days.
  • When about two to three days have passed, you can give it a try and reassemble the cell phone. In the best case, it works again and works as before. If it doesn't work yet, you can wait a few more days. If, however, it cannot be put back into operation, the damage will have been too great and the cell phone can usually no longer be saved.
