It's no secret that landlords have many problems with tenants to complain about. Rent is not paid on time or not at all. In addition, there are some contemporaries who are up to mischief as so-called rental nomads. Once you get rid of them, you are usually faced with a devastated property.

Self-disclosure - requirement for tenant application

Potential tenants are asked to answer certain questions about the person, economic situation and family situation as part of the self-assessment.

  • There is usually a questionnaire prepared by the landlord to answer them. Some questions (income, household size, keeping of animals, rent debts) must be answered exactly, as false information will also be given in the future termination being able to lead.
  • Since some landlords also want to receive answers that the legislature does not allow them, one can refuse the information or answer freely. Nationality, family planning or illnesses are none of the landlords' business.

Obtain Schufa information as a tenant

The vast majority of landlords are not themselves a contractual partner of Schufa. It is therefore not possible to simply obtain information on the creditworthiness of prospective tenants.

  • Since the Schufa information contains important statements on previous credit behavior, more and more landlords are demanding their submission. There is no general legal obligation to obtain yourself or to consent to the so-called Schufa clause. But if there are several applicants, the one who can provide complete evidence of orderly economic circumstances will certainly look best.
  • Is yours rental contract dear at heart, get one Credit Report. This consists of two parts, Part 1 for you personally, Part 2 for submission to third parties.
  • Only the data relevant for the landlord are listed in one. The other, however, contains all the data stored about you. Obtaining a Schufa credit report is easy online. It costs you 18.50 euros (as of 4/2013). As a rule, landlords do not participate.
