Why the Shockwave Player crashes

Not all Chrome users know the problem, there is a reason, because the Shockwave player only crashes if you have two players on your computer at the same time:

  • Chrome already comes with the Shockwave player, so you shouldn't have a second one on your PC. Just uninstall the other Shockwave player and the problem is forgotten.
  • If you also use another browser, you need a Shockwave player, because Chrome's can only be used in Chrome. In that case you have to deactivate the Shockwave player in Chrome.

Since Chrome also brings the Shockwave Player back with it when updating, the problem that Chrome crashes after an update can reappear, but this does not have to be the case.

How to disable the plug-in in Chrome

  1. Open the Chrome browser and enter "chrome: // plugins /" in the address bar to display the list of all plug-ins in Chrome.
  2. Adobe Flash Player keeps crashing - here's how to fix it

With the Adobe Flash Player your browser can create different videos, animations and ...

  3. Look for "Flash" in the list. If the Shockwave player crashes frequently, you will probably find two entries.
  4. Look for which Chrome's player is, you can tell by the location. Probably there is something from Macromedia resp. Adobe and from Chrome. Mime types always say something from Adobe, so you cannot recognize the Chrome player by this.
  5. The list of plug-ins also says Deactivate. You can use it to deactivate the Shockwave players that you do not want to use. Uncheck all but one you want to keep on Chrome.

Now the problem of the Shockwave player crashing on Chrome should be resolved. Chrome updates usually bypass the player, but if you reinstall the browser, Chrome's Shockwave player is guaranteed to come back and the problem occurs again.
