If you have children who are around 9-12 years old, it can be quite difficult be to find a great idea for handicrafts, which is also regarded as "cool" by the offspring. A rainmaker, as described in these instructions, is still a lot of fun even for children who are almost teenagers.

What you need:

  • 1 empty chip box
  • Motif cardboard
  • Nails
  • hammer
  • Craft glue
  • rice

9-12 year old children like to do handicrafts with tools

  1. For the cool rainmaker that children 9-12 years old will also enjoy, you will need a larger amount of small nails. These nails are driven into the tin in a spiral along the fold on the chip tin. The easiest way to do this is with a hammer.
  2. Of course, you can also drive the nails into the tin according to your own pattern. There should be a space of about 1/2 cm between the nails.
  3. When you've hammered your nails into the chip jar, pour the rice into it and glue the lid on with craft glue. Children of this age can do that very well on their own. If not, offer your help.

  1. If the lid is well glued and dried on the can, the rainmaker only needs to be embellished a little. Motif cardboard is ideal for this. Cut a piece of cardboard so that it fits around the can and covers the nails well.

Due to the spiral arrangement of the nails, the rice bounces off the wall and nails when the can is shaken. This creates the typical sound like when it's raining outside.
