Mango - what should be considered when choosing and storing it?

First of all, it is important that you have ripe mangoes on hand. Because the unripe fruit is hardly edible. An overripe mango will not make you happy either, as it is mushy and therefore difficult to cut.

It is therefore advisable to buy the mango not quite ripe and to let it ripen for a few days at home. In this way, the pulp can be optimally detached from the core. The mango is ripe when it can be easily pressed in and gives off a sweet scent. Do not store the fruit in the refrigeratorbecause it loses its aromatic taste.

How do you cut the fruit correctly?

With a trick you can cut the mango in next to no time:

  1. Cut into the mango. Take the knife and cut the mango lengthways to the core.

  4. Loosen the fruit half. Take the spoon as close as possible to the core and drive around it once so that you can loosen one half of the fruit.

  6. Cut into the mango. Take both halves of the mango and use the knife to cut a kind of checkerboard pattern into the flesh. You should cut deeply until you get to the peel of the mango, but do not damage it.

  7. Press against the shell. Now carefully press the mango inwards from the outside so that the pulp bulges outwards.

  8. Cut out the fruit cubes. Take the knife in hand and carefully cut along the shell. This releases the pre-cut mango pieces from the peel.

After cutting open, you can use the pieces as you wish. Marinated with a little lemon juice and well packaged, the mango will keep in the refrigerator for a maximum of two days.
