What you need:

The heating oil consumption per day can be calculated in two ways: A very simple calculation shows that Average daily consumption and a more complicated calculation shows the consumption in the various Seasons.

Calculate the heating oil consumption

  • Before you can start to calculate the consumption of heating oil per day, you need to know the consumption of medicinal oil per year.
  • You certainly buy heating oil at least once a year. But this delivery doesn't have to be enough for exactly 365 days. For example, if the delivery was already after 320 days, then you would only have to divide the new delivery by 320 and you already know the consumption per day.
  • However, when making this calculation you have to bear in mind that there was probably still heating oil in the tank when the new shipment arrived. You must deduct this remainder from the delivery. On the other hand, you have to add the amount that was still in the tank when the new shipment came.

The consumption per day based on the season

The above calculation gives an overview of the daily heating oil requirement, but unfortunately it is more than incorrect. After all, you need significantly more heating oil in winter than in summer, for example. If you now want to know a truthful amount of heating oil consumption per day, you can proceed as follows:

Read the heating yourself - this is how you determine the amount of oil remaining in the tank

Reading the heating yourself, it's not that difficult. How to do this with a ...

  • Every heating oil boiler has a filling indicator. Make a note of this every time the season changes - for example on the first of May, when you know that you will hardly have any heating afterwards.
  • At the end of summer or In autumn you can write off the new heating oil level.
  • Divide the amount you used during this time by the number of days. Example: level from 1. May and fill level from 31.8. The period is exactly 123 days. If you divide the consumption by 123, you know the heating oil consumption per day.
  • You can repeat this calculation as often as you like during the year.
