How to keep cut flowers fresh in the vase

  1. Keep the roses fresh in a bowl of cold water until the vase is ready. Use a vase that is clean and has no edges or shoulders from previous cut flowers.
  2. You should freshly boil the water for the vase beforehand and let it cool down. Fill the vase and add a splash of lemon to the lime-free water to lower the pH value as well.
  3. You must now hold the roses by the middle of the stem and cut the lower ends of the stem diagonally with a sharp knife, even if the flowers have already been cut. Rinse the cut ends with cold water.
  4. Remove any leaves from the rose that may come into contact with the water in the vase, this is important to avoid rotting. Place the rose stems individually in the vase so that not only can you arrange the bouquet, but you can prevent it also that the rose heads are too close together, which causes pressure points on the extremely sensitive flower.
  5. Now put the fresh roses in the vase and use them to decorate your apartment, where the bouquet is protected from direct sunlight. It should also not be so warm that the water evaporates quickly.

  • Change the water in the vase with boiled water every day. The vase should be cleaned beforehand so that a layer of mucus cannot form in it. To do this, put a handful of grains of rice in the vase and shake vigorously while holding the opening. Re-cut the stems and rinse with water. Individual wilted leaves or flowers are plucked off.
  • Fill the vase again with cooled, boiled water and add a dash of lemon juice again.
  • The fading of the roses can even be delayed a few days longer than usual. If the rose petals begin to fade, simply spray the rose petals with hairspray, this will at least keep them optically fresh for a long time. The flowers still need fresh water on a regular basis.

Never put fresh roses in a vase with older ones. That wouldn't do the fresh roses any good. Separate withered stems and place the leftover roses in a smaller vase.
