It's a great thing that parcels that have been sent can be tracked online. There is no live video tracking yet, but shipment tracking is child's play with DHL and other providers using the parcel number. All you need is an internet connection. Here's what you need to do to find out where your package is.

Maybe your parcel is with the neighbors?

This is how DHL shipment tracking works using the parcel number

  1. Get the package number. It is necessary so that the shipment can be verified by the computer. You will find this number on the receipt that will be given to you when you post the package at DHL.
  2. Go to the homepage of DHL on. You will now see a "Shipment tracking / shipment number (s)" field on the left. Here you can even enter several numbers at the same time. Press the Enter key after each number. Click the "Find Now" button.
  3. A small additional window opens in which the required information is displayed.
  4. The five symbols are important here. If only the first symbol is displayed in yellow, then the shipment was previously only recorded by DHL and is still in the post office. The following two symbols mark the route from the start to the destination package center. For example, if the sender is in Munich and the recipient is in Hamburg, then the start parcel center is Munich and the destination parcel center is Hamburg.
  5. Once there, it is transported to the delivery vehicle. From this point on, the fourth symbol is also yellow. The driver is on the way to the recipient.
  6. The shipment was processed in the destination parcel center - this is how you understand the meaning of the icons in shipment tracking

If you send or receive a package from DHL, you can track the shipment. If …

  7. When the package has been handed over, the yellow row is complete.
  8. If the consignment was successfully delivered according to the Internet, but did not reach you, ask your neighbors and check your mailbox to see whether the deliverer has posted a notification about the delivery to the neighbor became.

Tips for sending DHL parcels

  • Please keep the posting receipt with the number for the tracking and tracing at least until the recipient has confirmed receipt. The parcel number must remain as legible as possible on the receipt (do not accidentally spill coffee on it).
  • If you frank your shipment online, you save money on both parcels and parcels (20 cents for parcels, even 1 euro for parcels).
  • Large and heavy parcels can also be picked up by DHL for a fee. As more and more branches are closing, this is a good alternative, but unfortunately there is a fee.

Always pack your shipments as well and safely as possible to avoid transport damage. Not all drivers handle parcels with kid gloves, especially if they are heavy.
