Make a room divider out of it.

What you need:

  • Aquarium
  • Base cabinet
  • Square timber
  • Shelves
  • Mirror foil
  • cable channels
  • Neon tube
  • Sockets

Planning an aquarium in the room divider

  • Look for a place that offers the room design to optically divide the room there. In addition, the aquarium in the partition wall must not interfere with the movement in the room. You will quickly find it annoying to have to walk around the aquarium all the time, for example when setting a table.
  • Also plan the necessary Electrics for the aquarium so that there are no tripping hazards. A supply cable for filters, heating and light is sufficient, but it should be hidden and flat be laid from the wall to the room divider or the room divider must be connected to a wall on one side. You can get the cable through the ceiling mill a groove in the ground or hide it under a curved ledge. Cable ducts are less suitable.
  • Sockets should be integrated in the partition wall in order to connect the above-mentioned units. These should be attached in such a way that you can easily reach them when you clean the aquarium and at the same time be optically hidden.
  • Think about how you lead the cables of the units sensibly and optically from the aquarium and the lighting to these sockets. The aquarium in this wall will lose a lot of its effectiveness if tangled cables are hanging out.
  • The aquarium itself should look beautiful from all sides. The often common back wall is not useful for an aquarium in a wall. After all, you want to be able to see it from all sides. This makes the cable routing a little more difficult because you cannot hide it behind the aquarium.
  • Aquarium - build your own lighting

The lighting on your cover of your aquarium is broken and you are ...

  • The lighting of the aquarium is very important. A cover with integrated lighting is less appropriate. A tube attached to a shelf above the aquarium is better. This lighting should be shielded from the room so that nobody is blinded by looking at the wall with the aquarium.

Construction of the fish tank in the wall

  1. Use the usual base cabinet you have for your aquarium or a sturdy sideboard. In this you can accommodate all the necessary utensils, place the sockets and also the filter system if you want to use an external filter.
  2. Drill a few ventilation holes in this cabinet if you put technology or sockets there so that you cannot store heat in it. You simply attach these in a decorative pattern.
  3. Mount 4 square timbers at the corners of the base unit, which you also wedge on the ceiling and floor of the room.
  4. Assemble a shelf approx. 25 cm above the top edge of the aquarium and cover the underside with a reflective material, for example mirror foil. Attach a neon tube under the board. In it, use fluorescent tube that is suitable for aquariums. The tube should also be stronger than usual because of the greater distance. It is often better to use two tubes.
  5. Mount narrow shelves on all sides under this board as covers to hide the tube. Install sockets in the base cabinet or on its underside. Lay cable ducts to hold the cables or Conceal the tubes of the lamp and the units. Connect the electrical outlets.
  6. Put in more shelves if you wish. If you also want to place plants there, you have to install a plant light lamp on the ceiling above the shelf so that the plants can also grow and thrive.
  7. Now you can put the aquarium in its place, fill it and connect everything. Cover the basin with a sheet of glass to prevent excessive evaporation and to keep dust away from the water.
  8. This is how you can integrate an aquarium in a room divider wall. If you don't like open shelves, you can take everything with you except for the aquarium wood cover it up, even wallpaper it to match the room, then the room divider looks like a massive wall in which an aquarium is built-in. In that case, put in front of the Doors of the base cabinet, a plate that you attach with strong magnets. So you can always go to the closet.
