On the Internet via the surf stick

A surf stick is basically a really practical matter if there is no internet connection available at home or if you want to access the internet with your notebook while you are out and about.

  • Mobile surfing with the surf stick is only fun if the reception quality is right, because the speed and stability of your Internet connection depend on it.
  • The reception quality can, however, vary greatly depending on the location. Thick walls, tall trees or other obstacles can interfere with the radio waves between the radio mast and your surf stick, making the connection poor (unstable) or not at all.
  • A UMTS antenna for your surf stick can help here, with which the radio signal can be amplified and the connection can be improved enormously.

Build a UMTS antenna yourself - simple but effective

You can easily build an antenna for your surf stick yourself in the best "MacGyver manner" from a few household utensils. To do this, you need a metal kitchen sieve, a piece of aluminum foil, of course adhesive tape and - if not included in the scope of delivery of your surf stick - an additional USB extension cable.

Internet stick - improve reception

Portable internet comes in handy when it works. In the country is ...

  1. Determine, if necessary Use a tape measure or ruler to locate the center of the metal screen and mark it with a small piece of adhesive tape.
  2. Now cut a small, oval hole in the sieve with the scissors - the surf stick will have to fit through this later.
  3. Now cut the aluminum foil into strips and wrap the metal kitchen sieve completely with the foil strips. Fix the ends if necessary with tape.
  4. Now insert your surf stick from the inside into the opening in the sieve and align it so that it sits as firmly and centrally as possible.
  5. Then carefully connect the surf stick to the USB extension cable (if necessary) fix with adhesive tape) and then align your self-made antenna in the direction of the radio mast. You will find the best connection when you slowly turn in a circle with the antenna. The best way to fix your antenna there is by setting it up or hanging it up, depending on the local conditions.

It's so easy to build a UMTS antenna yourself - little effort, but great effect. Have fun surfing with the surf stick!
