Texas Instruments TI-30 Eco RS
The TI-30 Eco RS from Texas Instruments, which is often used in schools, has a large number of functions. This not only increases the number of uses it can be used for, but is also responsible for the confusing number of buttons.
The basic functions of the TI-30 Eco RS
- The basics are self-explanatory. With [ON / AC] you switch on the calculator and delete older arithmetic entries from the memory.
- You can carry out simple arithmetic operations as usual with the number field and the [+], [-], [x], [÷] and [=] keys. The key with + and - and the alternating arrows change the sign of the displayed value. You can nest more complicated terms with the [)] and [(] keys. The left arrow in the lower left corner deletes the last entered digit.
- The yellow button [2nd] activates the second function of a button that is specified above it. For example, if you want to work out the third root of 125, press [3] [2nd] [yx].
Fractional and power calculations with Texas Instruments
- In order to calculate fractions you mainly need the key [ab/c]. If you enter only two values, the TI-30 Eco RS assumes a true fraction, for example [3] [ab/c] [4] the entry for 3/4, 33/5 on the other hand, [3] [ab/c] [4] [ab/c] [5]. The second function [d / c] alternates between a real and an improper fraction.
- [F <> D] changes the display from a fraction to a decimal number.
- The third row of keys with the keys [1/x] for the reciprocal, [x²] for the quadrature and [√x] for the square root (as well as its second function [x√y] for others root).

Trigonometry and logarithms
Now we're gradually getting into the area where the Texas Instruments TI-30 Eco RS is ahead of other pocket calculators.
- The row of keys above is mainly used for trigonometric functions: [SIN] for sine, [COS] for cosine and [TAN] for tangent. The second function is always the reverse of the function. In this context, the [DRG] key and its second function are also of interest, which shows the displayed angle value as degrees, grads or radians.
- [LOG] and [LN] are for logarithmic calculations, the first key for the 10th logarithm, the second for the natural logarithm. Correspondingly, the second functions are again the inversions [10x] or [ex].
- [Sto] saves the displayed value, [RCL] calls it up again. You can save several values at the same time by assigning memory locations to them, for example [STO] [3] saves the displayed value in memory location 3, [RCL] [3] calls it up again.
With the TI-30 Eco RS, Texas Instruments offers you one calculatorthat over all Functions that you may encounter outside of a mathematical institute.
