Students are generally short of money. Broadcasting fees, which are regularly incurred, are therefore an additional burden for young people. But there is a GEZ exemption! You can read how to do this here.

This basically applies to the GEZ

  • The fee collection center of the public service media also demands fees from students.
  • The costs are incurred for every household in which there are radios.
  • Radio equipment includes television, radio, computer and UMTS-enabled cell phones.
  • From 2013 new rules will apply at the GEZ: No matter how many people live in a household and which devices are available there, the monthly fee of € 17.98 now applies to everyone.

This is how an exemption works for students

Students who still live at home and have less than € 281 a month to spend are not obliged to pay GEZ fees. But even if you've moved out, you can still get relief.
