Do you have adorable faces in your photos, but the background just doesn't match? With the help of Microsoft Paint, a graphic editing software, you can cut these out and scale them to fit your new background.

Cut out faces using Microsoft software

  1. To cut out the faces, first open the desired image with Microsoft Paint. The photo should then be visible on the editing surface of the graphics software.
  2. Now select the "Start" tab and look for the "Select" command. If you click on the command, a window opens with various editing options.
  3. If you just want to reduce the background around your faces, click on "Rectangular selection". With the mouse pointer you can now draw a desired window around your face. As soon as the window is set, all you have to do is click on "Crop" in the menu and the unsightly background around it disappears.
  4. If, on the other hand, you want to cut along the contour of the face, then select the "Shape-free selection" in Paint. With the left mouse button pressed you must now follow the facial contours of your picture until you are back at the beginning, then let go of your mouse pointer.
  5. A selection window will then also be visible here. If you now select "Crop", only the face remains on the work surface according to your selection.
  6. Insert a photo into a picture - this is how it works

With the image processing software "Paint" available under Windows you can quickly ...

Scale pictures in Paint - adjust photo size individually

If you find that your photo is no longer the desired size after being cut out, Paint offers a solution for this as well.

  1. To do this, open the "Resize / Drag" window with the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl + W" or click on "Change size" in the "Start" tab.
  2. You can now use the window to move the vertical or the horizontal side length of your image. Make sure that a checkmark is set for "Keep aspect ratio". Otherwise, it may disfigure your face on the work surface.
  3. Have the desired values via keyboard entered, confirm with "OK" and Paint will automatically apply the changes to your photo.

Scaling an image larger than it actually is is usually not recommended. Because it can be that your faces look very pixelated to the viewer.
