An electrician does not always have to be called immediately if a simple lamp is to be replaced and the new one connected. If you connect the lamp yourself, however, some safety rules should be observed to prevent injury from electric shock.

What you need:

  • Lamp with illuminant
  • Voltage tester
  • screwdriver

This is how you connect lamps yourself

You can also connect a lamp yourself. However, you should also take a few safety precautions so that work safety is guaranteed.

  1. The first thing to do before connecting the lamp is to turn off the electricity in the room. To do this, switch off the corresponding automatic circuit breaker at the fuse box. Find the appropriate switch in the fuse box and push it down. The individual circuit breakers are clearly marked in your fuse box. Otherwise, the only thing that helps is to try it out.
  2. After that, you should make sure that the room is without electricity. The best way to do this is to use a voltage tester. Hold it by the connection cable of the line to which the lamp is to be connected (the blue and the black cable). If the voltage tester shows no mains voltage, you can continue with connecting the lamp.
  3. The connection line has three individual connections. Two of them are blue and black. The socket for the lamp is connected here. These lines consist of the outer conductor (black) and the neutral conductor (blue) and are responsible for the voltage supply of the lamp.
  4. The third connection is the so-called protective conductor (yellow / green). This is used for safety in the event that the outer conductor is connected to the housing due to a defect. In this case, the residual current circuit breaker would trip and interrupt the power supply.
