Clean the drain with a plunger

One way to clean the drain of a sink is to use the puddle. This variant hardly requires any manual skill and the effort is limited.

  1. First remove the plug from the Drain the sink and let water run in until it is a few centimeters high in the basin.
  2. Meanwhile, you can plug the overflow with a damp cloth. As an alternative, you can also use wide adhesive tape. It is only important that the overflow is tightly and airtightly closed.
  3. Then take the plunger in hand and place the rubber bell on the drain. Now start with a pumping movement. The resulting suction loosens the dirt in the sink drain and rinses it into the sink.
  4. As soon as the drain is clear again, you can rinse the basin with water.
  5. Install the siphon correctly - this is how it works

In most cases, this technique should be sufficient to clean the drain. If the plug is too tight, you can still clear the clog by hand. To do this, however, the siphon must be unscrewed.

Remove the sink siphon

  1. First, take a large bucket of water and place it under the sink so that water running out of the siphon can be caught. Carpets or rugs should be cleared to the side beforehand.
  2. Then use the pliers to open the two screw connections that connect the curved center piece to the drain pipe on the wall and the sink drain. The tube can now be pulled downwards with slight resistance.
  3. Empty the contents of the siphon into the bucket. Now you can use a long stick or a pipe brush to start pushing the plug out of the drainpipe on the sink from above. It can be very helpful to keep adding a little water.
  4. Once the blockage has been resolved, the siphon can be reinserted. When screwing, make sure that the seals are neatly placed on top of each other. Before you remove the bucket, let water run through the sink again. So you can be sure that the drain is tight again.
