A bench with a chest is very practical. The things that can be found in this seat are always accessible and not in anyone's way. That is why it is advisable - not only for reasons of space - to opt for a chest as a bench.

What you need:

  • 4 wooden panels 150 x 45 cm; 2.5 cm thick
  • 2 wooden panels 45 x 50 cm; 2.5 cm thick
  • 22 Spax screws 5 x 40 mm
  • 12 wood screws 5 x 15 mm
  • 2 simple hinges 70 x 80 mm
  • 2 wood rasps fine and coarse
  • 1 Phillips screwdriver
  • Fine and coarse sandpaper
  • 1 drill with a 3 mm wood drill bit
  • 0.5 liter wood protection glaze

Complete the basic structure of the bench

First, the wooden panels should be placed in position to provide a good overview.

  1. 3 large panels are now taken and placed on a planar level as a U-shape with the opening at the bottom, so that the floor is placed on the two outer walls.
  2. Now the side walls are screwed to the base plate with 5 spax screws per wall. Pre-drilling with a 3 mm bit is recommended for every screw connection.
  3. The U-shape is now stable and can be turned, now the U is open at the top. The bench is now in position.
  4. The small side walls can now be screwed onto the open sides with 6 spax screws each.
  5. Build your own wooden pillow box

In summer, the cushions on your balcony or terrace furniture are quickly tidy and ...

The basic framework is ready. The chest can already be seen.

The chest is completed with the assembly of the flap

  1. The remaining large wooden board is now placed on the basic framework to check whether the boards have already been cut to fit. If this is not the case, the plate can be adjusted using the rasp.
  2. Now it is time to fit the hinges into the headstock. The thickness of the hinges is rasped into the headboard at the same distance so that the hinges are countersunk in the board and the bench can be locked properly.
  3. Now the rasped area is sanded smooth with the help of the emery paper. First with the coarse and then with the fine paper.
  4. The hinges are now screwed into the headboard and on the back with the small screws to allow opening and closing. When pre-drilling, make sure that the drill does not go through completely.
  5. The chest is now fully assembled. The box is now completely processed once with coarse and fine sandpaper.
  6. Finally, the box is provided with a wood protection glaze. Creativity can be given free rein here.
