1. Download the zip file and unzip with a common unzip program such as WinRar, WinZip or 7-zip.
2. Start the MCEdit.bat file. A window opens in which you have the option of opening different worlds or using "N" to create a new Minecraft world with the map editor. When you create a new world, all you get is a blank area made of stone and a spawn point.
3. Instead of creating a new world, it makes more sense to open up an existing world. You can look at your existing world from all sides and also go up above the surface, for example to look for your house if you no longer know where it is.
