Gravel is easy to distinguish from gravel. Gravel has rounded shapes that were created naturally. Ballast is obtained from rubble stones that are processed in special crushing systems in the quarry. Therefore, gravel is always sharp-edged.

Different high costs of gravel

  • You can get gravel in various grain sizes from building materials stores or quarries. Gravel is available, for example, as fine chippings or paving stones. The grain size here is 2 to 5 millimeters. The costs range from 10 to 60 euros per ton. You can count on about 1.5 tons for one cubic meter. The order quantity and the total costs can then be determined from this, taking into account the thickness of a possible leveling layer under paving or dry stone walls.
  • Coarse gravel or scrapings are available in different grain sizes. The optimal grain size starts at 32 millimeters (smallest grain) and goes up to 63 millimeters (largest grain). The costs per ton are around 8 to 25 euros per ton. If you order one cubic meter of crushed stone, you will receive around 1.6 tons.
  • Gravel of this grain size is ideally suited as a substructure for paths and squares. It is also used to backfill dry stone walls and base layers for lighter structures.
