Seal the expansion joint on the masonry

How to seal expansion joints
To seal expansion joints, you should use an elastic material. Silicone or acrylic joint sealants are particularly suitable here. Note that you should not use different materials to avoid cracks here too.
- Mask the joints so that excess silicone lands right on the painter's tape and you don't have to laboriously scrape it off again.
- Depending on the depth of the joints, you may have to use a special backfill cord for backfilling.
- Fill the joints with silicone from the cartridge as evenly as possible.
- Smooth the grout with a putty knife to remove any imperfections.
- You can peel off the painter's tape as soon as the silicone has dried.

This must be taken into account when sealing masonry
- Since there are horizontal and vertical expansion joints in masonry, both directions must of course be sealed.
- However, connections to walls (such as windows or doors) should also be sealed with a joint seal.
- For example, if your terrace is tiled, make sure that the Tiles are placed in such a way that they are not flush with the wall, but rather an expansion joint is made. You should also close these or have them closed.
Properly worked expansion joints not only protect your masonry, but are also not to be neglected when it comes to thermal insulation.
