Cleaning plexiglass

There are a few things to keep in mind when cleaning Plexiglas.

  • Plexiglas, which actually bears the beautiful name polymethyl methacrylate, is not glass, but a glass-like plastic that came onto the market in the 1930s. It is used, for example, for eyeglass lenses, but also for glazing or objects such as lampshades - all things that shouldn't get unsightly and annoying scratches.
  • For eyeglass lenses, you can usually get a suitable cloth from your optician for dry cleaning when you are out and about. At home you should clean your glasses with a damp cloth, you can buy special cleaning agents for this, but water and washing-up liquid are also possible, otherwise the same applies to Plexiglas in general.

So you can do it without scratches

  • When cleaning plexiglass, also called acrylic glass, do not use rough paper towels on a household roll, as the rough paper can scratch the plexiglass. Also, do not use a lint-free cloth.
  • It is best to use a good microfiber cloth for cleaning, which you only use for one purpose and not for any other purpose, a lint-free, soft sponge will also work.
  • Grinding plexiglass - tips

  • Never wipe Plexiglas dry and never use abrasive cleaners.
