Depending on whether you are using an Outlook or Google calendar and which operating system your computer is running on, there are different ways of using the calendar with the iPhone to synchronize:

Synchronize Outlook calendar via iTunes

  1. Install iTunes on your computer (http://www.apple.com/de/itunes/) and create an account. If you already have an iTunes account, log in with your account name and password.
  2. When synchronizing between iTunes and iPhone for the first time, specify that the Outlook calendar should be synchronized every time the iPhone is connected. To do this, select the connected iPhone in iTunes. In the "Info" tab, check "Synchronize calendar" and select "Outlook" as the source. Alternatively, you can activate the synchronization manually each time.
  3. Now connect the iPhone to the USB port of the computer using the cable supplied. iTunes opens automatically and begins the preset synchronization of your iPhone with Outlook.
  4. For manual synchronization, select the iPhone under “Devices” and click on the “Info” tab. Select the Outlook calendar to be synchronized and click on "Apply" at the bottom right of the screen.
  5. Sync Outlook with the app on the iPhone

To synchronize contacts and appointments from Outlook with the iPhone, you need ...

  6. If you are synchronizing your iPhone with the Outlook calendar for the first time, you will asked if you are going to merge the data, replace a service, or replace the data on the computer want. These settings are then carried out again every subsequent time. If you alternate between updating data on iPhone and computer, we recommend that you use the “Merge data” setting. With the calendar, the data is then compared in both directions, i.e. from the computer to the iPhone and from the iPhone to the computer. If you want to ensure that either the computer or the iPhone represents the database, you should select the alternative settings.
  7. iTunes will notify you when the synchronization is finished. Then "eject" the iPhone in iTunes and only then disconnect the USB port.

Synchronize Google Calendar via Google Sync

  1. Anyone who has an iPhone with at least OS 3.0 can use Google Sync to synchronize with the Google calendar.
  2. In the settings on your iPhone, select “Mail, Contacts and Calendar”. If you click on “Add account” there, “Microsoft Exchange” will appear.
  3. Enter the following data there:
    - Email: Gmail address
    - Domain: leave blank
    - Username and password: the data of your Google account
    - Server name: m.google.com
  4. If you now click on "Next", you can select the calendar.
  5. Next, you will be asked if you want to keep the existing data on the iPhone. This option is recommended if there were previously different data on the iPhone and the Google calendar.
  6. From now on, the Google calendar will be displayed parallel to the iPhone calendar on the phone. The calendars can be displayed either individually or in a consolidated form as "all calendars".
