All you need for these building instructions is a sturdy plastic tray. You can easily use a bowl of strawberries or tomatoes from the supermarket for this.

  1. Cut openings. Use a penknife or a cutter to cut evenly sized patterns into the bowl. Use a ruler to cut the edges clean and straight. The openings run through the entire shell - that is, the bottom and side walls.

Tips for using the Vanda basket

Vanda baskets are intended for cultivating orchids from the genus Vanda and Ascocenda. Because the around 50 associated species of the plant have a special preference: They need sufficient air circulation around the root ball. They also prefer it if the roots can dry off completely after watering them. The Vanda basket offers the orchids optimal conditions.

Place your plant in the prepared basket with bare roots, i.e. without any additional substrate. You can hang the plant basket freely in a bright location without direct sunlight.

Spray the plants with soft water daily. Moisten more often if necessary in high heat. Once a week, your Vandeen should take a half-hour water bath - only immerse the aerial roots.

Tip: Since the roots dry out quickly, the combination with a Tillandsia usneoides is ideal. The tillandsia is attached to the orchid hung, stores water there and provides your Vanda with additional moisture.

In addition to wooden baskets with pine bark, a Vanda basket is an ideal planter for your orchid. If you also follow a few care tips, you will reward your Vanda with a beautiful flower.
