Correctly clean the cast iron fire bowl
Unfortunately, rust and other soiling do not stop at cast iron fire bowls. With a few tricks, however, you can also easily clean them.
Important when cleaning the fire bowl
- An important point when cleaning cast iron fire bowls is wearing gloves. This not only keeps your hands safe from dirt. In this way, no sweat that could attack the surface of the material can get onto the fire bowl.
- To remove coarse soiling, such as rust, you can also start with coarser means. The pot sponge from the kitchen is well suited to get to grips with this kind of dirt.
- When you have loosened the coarse dirt, work with a clean cloth until every grain has loosened. You should use the cloth beforehand e.g. B. Drizzle with white spirit so that the fine particles stick more easily.
Cast iron needs to be cared for
- In order to extend the life of your fire bowl, you should also take care of the surface in addition to cleaning it. To do this, you can use a care product for hotplates and apply it to the plate and polish it.
- To increase the care effect even more, you can burn this care product into the cast iron. Since you probably don't have a kiln, so will the oven in the kitchen (around 20 minutes at 200 ° C).
- Finally, it is advisable to apply a thin layer of nourishing oil, such as sewing machine oil, to the cast iron fire bowl. Rub in the oil well and then wipe with a dry cloth.
- You can also generally use the nourishing oil for "smaller" cleanings. If, for example, you put a few drops of oil on the cloth while dusting, you have combined cleaning and maintenance in one step.
- If you follow these care instructions and repeat them every few weeks or in the event of coarse soiling, you should have some of your cast iron fire bowl for a very long time!
