How to properly cook basmati rice

Before you start preparing, you should get the right one rice have ready. You shouldn't use pre-cooked rice or cook-in-the-bag rice, it is best to buy Basmati rice in an Asian shop.

  1. Basmati rice is best made using the so-called spring rice method. In doing so, it completely absorbs the liquid and the nutrient are well preserved. To do this, you first need to wash the rice thoroughly. Use a sieve, for example, and clean the rice until it is used water is no longer milky, but clear.
  2. Put the rice in a saucepan and add a little salt.
  3. Next you need to add the required amount of water. The rough formula is 1: 2. That means one part rice and two parts water. It is best to use a cup to measure. Otherwise you have to multiply the weight of the dry rice by three, as the volume of the rice is significantly larger than the net weight (200g is around 350ml, for which you need approx. 600ml water).
  4. Bring everything to a boil in the closed pot.
  5. When the water boils, the Basmati rice only needs to swell. If you are using an electric stove, you can switch off the stove completely, as the remaining heat is sufficient. If you are using another stove, you should switch it back to the lowest setting in order to generate enough residual heat.
  6. Let the rice simmer for approx. Brew for 15 to 20 minutes.
  7. Loosen the finished rice before Serve open something with a fork.
  8. If you want the rice to be a bit more exotic and aromatic, you could also cook the basmati rice in coconut milk. Alternatively, you could add different spices such as lemongrass when cooking.
