Custom cut for Plexiglas panes

There are several methods of cutting plexiglass, all of which are extremely simple.

  • Leave the protective film on the plexiglass so that you don't scratch the plexiglass pane unnecessarily. In addition, you can very easily see the cut lines on this slide with a waterproof felt-tip pen record and then completely together with the film from the plexiglass so that they cut to size, remove. Draw the cutting lines on the protective film of the Plexiglas pane with the felt-tip pen and place the Plexiglas that you want to cut to size on a hard one Underground.
  • If you need a straight cutting line across the entire width of the plexiglass pane, scratch the plexiglass along the cutting line with a cutter that you run along the ruler. You have to guide the cutter along the same line about as often as the glass is thick. Work with light pressure, preferably scratch more often than too hard. Place the log, which can also be a pencil, under the plexiglass, exactly under the cut line. Press with both thumbs from above to the right and left of the cutting line. The plexiglass will break exactly along this line. For longer cut edges, repeat the process along the cut edge. You can also break the plexiglass over the edge of a table, but there is a greater risk that the break will not go as it should. In addition, significantly longer cut edges are possible by breaking over the round bar.
  • If you want to cut a rectangle from a larger piece of plexiglass, mark it so that two edges of the rectangle lie on the existing edges of the acrylic glass. Score the two cutting lines as described. Use a fine drill to drill into the intersection of the two cutting lines. This will prevent the glass from breaking past the edges of the rectangle. Then proceed with the round timber as described.
  • Arcs or circles are difficult to cut after the process and some custom cuts are round. With these shapes it makes more sense to cut out the cutting lines with a jigsaw or fretsaw. Use a hard metal saw blade with fine teeth. Caution: Switch off the pendulum stroke on the jigsaw and work with medium feed. Saw slowly so that the material does not melt and the saw blade sticks, or cool with water while sawing. With the saw running, approach the plexiglass and put the saw shoe firmly on.
  • Plexiglass processing - this is how you proceed

  • You can also cut Plexiglas panes to size with a circular saw. Use a hard metal blade with uninterlaced fine teeth that only just protrude over the plexiglass plate. The material to be sawn must not flutter, so it should be firmly clamped. As a rule, however, you do not need a circular saw, as straight cuts are easy to achieve by scoring and breaking. Saws may only be necessary from a material thickness of more than 4 mm.

So don't be afraid of Plexiglas panes, you can easily cut them to size.
