According to the Telemedia Act, commercial websites are subject to the imprint obligation. However, many private websites are also affected. This applies, for example, if you have placed an advertising banner on the relevant page. Some other circumstances can also mean that you are obliged to provide an imprint, so it is always advisable to provide the relevant information on the website.

  1. The mandatory information includes first of all the name and address of the operator of the website and also the respective legal form, such as in the case of companies for example GmbH or OHG.

  2. In addition, information on how to contact you must also be provided. This can be, for example, telephone number,

    e-mail-Address or fax number. With this information it is important that the operator can actually be reached under the given data.

  3. If the website is operated by a registered company or association, the register and registration number are also mandatory information.

  4. Special professional groups, such as freelancers, have to provide additional information. However, these differ depending on the profession and title. It is important to state the exact job title - in the case of protected job titles, it is also important to indicate where the respective title was acquired. If official approval is required to exercise the profession, the competent supervisory authority or the chamber must also be named.

  • Contact details under which you cannot be reached should also not be listed. These include, for example, rarely used cell phone numbers or e-mail addresses that are only rarely accessed.

  • It is not sufficient to specify a post office box on the homepage, because this is not an address for summons at which you as the operator can actually be reached. Therefore you should always give your address.
