Laminate creaks and squeaks - there are a number of things you can do about it.

What you need:

  • Wood screws
  • felt
  • Chipboard
  • Compensatory dividend

Basically, it must be stated that a laminate floor should be made on an absolutely level surface. If this is not the case, the floor may take a long time to creak and squeak. Therefore, the preparation of the subsurface is the most important task. There is also the possibility of reworking a laminate floor that has already been laid.

The laminate creaks and squeaks - a remedy is possible

  1. If you have already laid the laminate floor, you should check whether you have kept enough distance from the wall. Basically, the distance from Laminate to the wall approx. 10 mm. If the laminate hits the wall, it may creak or squeak when you move it. Here you should then rework and shorten these areas of the laminate.
  2. Most of the time, however, the laminate reports loudly because of an uneven surface. If shortening the laminate did not help, you should remove it again if at all possible to work on the substrate.
  3. The subsurface often consists of a plank floor. See if this floor is level. If this is the case, it is likely that the planks give a little even under load. Here you can proceed in such a way that you also fasten them with wood screws, if possible, at the points where the boards move. If the floor is still level and the planks no longer give, you can put the laminate back on.
  4. If the board floor is still not level, you should apply a so-called leveling compound and screw chipboard onto it. When the laminate is laid on top of it, there should be no more creaking and squeaking.
  5. Laminate on tiles - how to lay it correctly

Laminates as floor coverings are modern and popular and many are asking themselves ...

  6. Another measure would be that you put felt mats on the substrate as insulation and chipboard on top before you lay the laminate.
  7. Always make sure that you work absolutely cleanly and correctly when laying laminate so that you get the best result.
