The shabby chic furnishing style is becoming increasingly popular. However, the pieces in the furniture market often cost a small fortune. What you need:
- Dining table
- Paint in a pastel shade
- Steel wool
- Crackling varnish

- Orbital sander
- Paint stripper

Prepare the dining table for a new coat of paint
You will need to invest most of your time in preparation. If you do not work properly now, you will not achieve the desired shabby chic effect.
- Have a dining table made from untreated wood, if you are in luck, you can get started right away.
- Often times will furniture but provided with a protective varnish, which you have to remove. You also have to sand off old paint.
- Apply a paint stripper to the entire table with a brush and let the agent work for several hours. After the exposure time, scrape off the paint with a spatula. Ventilate well when you are working with paint strippers.
- Once you have removed the coarsest layers of paint, switch to an orbital sander. First choose a coarse grit and sand the surface. In the corners and on the table legs you work with a hot air device to heat the paint. Finally, work with a sanding block of the finest grit.
- Only when you have achieved a clean and even surface in all places can you continue.

- Apply a light color of your choice to the dining table and let the paint dry. Now sand down the paint in some places with steel wool. Pick the lots at random for a natural shabby chic look.
- The look becomes even more sophisticated when you work with crackling lacquer. First choose a slightly darker pastel shade and paint the entire table with it. Let the paint dry.
- Now apply the craquelure varnish in some places and let it dry as well. Now paint the table in an opaque color, light pastel tones go best with shabby chic.
- If the top coat dries, cracks will form in the areas where you have applied the crackling varnish.
Combine your dining table with white furniture, cushions in delicate gray, rose or blue tones and silver accessories to create a uniform image.
