Every refrigerator is controlled by control technology

  • The regulation differs according to the principle: An electronic regulation uses a sensor. Most household refrigerators have a thermostat; they control the temperature via a sensor with capillary tubes. This guide is about this system.
  • First of all, it has to be clarified whether the thermostat really triggers the defect. To do this, it has to be expanded. As a rule, it is located behind the interior lining of the refrigerator, where the adjustment knob is. The capillary line with sensor runs from there to the evaporator on the back and must be pulled out to replace it.

The thermostat is defective - are you sure?

  1. First pull off the adjustment knob. Behind it you will find guidelines on how to hold the control unit panel in place. the Dismantling these plastic parts are made differently by each manufacturer. Often there is no screwing, but the cladding has to be removed from the clips or pins.
  2. To avoid damage, you can obtain information from the manufacturer's hotline or a service company if necessary. If such a part breaks, it has to be glued or screwed. This has no effect on the function.
  3. If you have succeeded in dismantling the cladding, you can now look at the thermostat. It has 3 plug connections on which cables sit. If you refrigerator does not work, try the following: de-energize the device. Unplug all cables and temporarily connect all 3 cables together so that they do not pose a hazard when power is applied.
  4. Repair the refrigerator - this is how it works

If the refrigerator is "crazy", laypeople can usually not repair it, but ...

  5. If your refrigerator starts now when the power is switched on, the fault is most likely to be found in the thermostat. The same applies if the refrigerator is permanently cooling, but switches off when the thermostat is removed. Then take the device out of the holder and carefully pull out the capillary line with it.
  6. Obtain the same type of thermostat and circle the capillary line back into the housing so that the sensor is exactly in the right place. Now plug the cables back on (pay attention to the polarity) and attach the cladding. Your refrigerator should now react to the commands of the setting button again. Operation successful!
