How to renovate the balcony with liquid plastic

Before you can apply the liquid plastic, you must completely remove old tiles and similar coverings. Paints must at least be roughened up, untreated concrete surfaces must be cleaned.

  1. Paint mineral balcony floors with an appropriate primer; liquid plastic is not suitable for wood. Let the primer dry. Do not skimp on the primer, otherwise the liquid plastic will not adhere properly.
  2. Consider the connection to vertical walls, especially the house wall. Cracks usually form in this abutting edge. It also has fatal consequences if water collects in these areas after rain. This edge should definitely be shaped into a chamfer. It is particularly advantageous if you apply strips of fabric fleece with liquid plastic "wet on wet". The surface of the belts must be shiny from the liquid plastic.
  3. In the edge area opposite the house wall, balconies are exposed to particular loads. Here edges should only be sealed with permanently elastic compounds because the balcony moves there. Apply this mass with a commercially available cartridge and smooth the joint into a groove.
  4. Examine the surface on which you want to apply the liquid plastic. If you discover cracks, fill them up, if necessary cover them with a tear tape that you work in with the liquid plastic.

  6. Now apply the liquid plastic twice with a paint roller, observing the waiting times prescribed by the manufacturer. Finally, the liquid plastic is given a decorative coating, into which sand or flakes of paint can also be sprinkled.

  • If the balcony is sealed with bitumen, you cannot apply liquid plastic. In that case, cover the bitumen flooring with a self-supporting floor such as wooden gratings.
  • Tiles that are still worth preserving can remain on the floor as long as the balcony is still tight. These can be provided with special primers and then sealed with transparent liquid plastic. This is particularly useful if the balcony has been newly tiled.
