What you need:

  • Tape measure
  • Joint cutter
  • Jigsaw
  • 1 can of wood glue
  • hammer
  • 1 nail
  • fine sandpaper
  • 1 can of wood protection primer
  • 1 can of colored lacquer
  • 1 spruce wood

Prepare the wooden cable duct

You manufacture a cable duct for your apartment that is made from spruce wood.

  1. So you know how long your cable duct is from wood you should measure everything exactly. You should also check how many cables have been laid in order to be able to calculate the width of the cable duct. This means that if only one cable runs long, you don't need a cable duct made of wood as wide as if four or more cables are to be accommodated in the cable duct.
  2. After you have measured everything, start cutting your cable duct. You cut the required number of base plates from 2 cm thick spruce wood. Then cut the side parts from 2 cm thick spruce wood. The side parts are inserted 5 mm from your top edge measured downwards.
  3. The side panels have a 3 mm wide joint that is milled 5 mm deep into the wood. Then the cover plates for your cable duct are cut out of wood. The covers are then pushed into the joint between the two side panels. For this purpose, 2.5 mm x 4 mm square pieces of wood are cut, which are glued to the cover panels on the left and right side, measured 5 mm from the upper edge.

How to attach the cable routing

  1. Now glue the side parts to the base plate. Make sure that the joints in the side parts point inwards. The base plate is glued between the side panels and then nailed up. You nail the side parts to the base plate with small nails, which gives your wooden cable duct additional stability.

  3. When your wooden cable duct is finished to such an extent that practically only the cable has to be put in and the cover pushed on, you should adapt the cable duct to the color of your wall. So you take fine sandpaper and sand the entire cable duct.
  4. After the wooden cable duct has been sanded, paint it with wood protection primer. Then wait for the wood preservative primer to dry and roughen everything up again.
  5. Then paint the entire wooden cable duct with colored varnish. When the colored lacquer has dried, you can hand over the wooden cable duct to its intended use.
