Basic information on the grill symbols

  • You can usually set a specific temperature in the oven. The oven heats the entire cooking space to this temperature and keeps it constant. The oven door must of course be closed, otherwise you will heat it kitchen not the oven.

  • If your oven has a grill symbol with convection, the cooking space will be used when this symbol is used mostly not left open, but you should take a look at the instructions for the oven, like yours is. The convection prevents the underside of the food from remaining cold because it distributes the heat evenly in the oven. As a result, there is usually no build-up of heat at certain points in the cooking space.

Never switch on the grill symbol when baking filled doughs such as pizza or fruit cakes, because then the topping would burn and the dough would remain raw. These things are best baked in the oven with bottom heat or convection.
