A Deutsche Bahn weekly ticket is worthwhile for you if you take the train for a certain distance every day or almost every day. The weekly ticket is cheaper than a monthly ticket or the daily redemption of single tickets. In order to ensure that the purchase of a weekly ticket goes smoothly and that no important questions remain unanswered, this article shows you what you need to consider when buying a weekly ticket for the train.

It is important to know that the weekly train ticket must always be purchased before starting the journey. A purchase in train with the conductor is not possible, even in exceptional cases. The inspectors are required to treat starting a journey without a valid ticket as fraudulent performance.

You have to keep this in mind when purchasing the weekly ticket

  • You can get a weekly ticket from the train ticket machine under the heading "Zeitkarten". Enter your destination, the starting station is automatically the station at which the machine is located. When entering data on the machine, you also have the option of choosing a different starting station.
  • If you do not want to set the week ticket to a specific destination station, you can buy a honeycomb week ticket. To do this, enter the desired number of honeycombs. You can find out how many honeycombs you have to cross to get to your destination from a honeycomb map that you can get at the Deutsche Bahn service points.
  • If your destination station can be reached from your starting point via different approaches, you will be asked to decide on a route. Find out beforehand which route is the cheapest connection for you, because once you have made your decision, you are also determined. Your weekly ticket is therefore only valid for the selected route.
  • The week ticket is valid for a further 6 days from the day it was purchased. Weekends and holidays are also counted. Take this into account when purchasing and always pay attention to the expiry date on the card. Once the validity date has been reached, you can continue to use the card until the end of business hours; it is not valid until the next day.
