How to prepare your furniture

Decorative foils are easy to process and beautify your furniture in the blink of an eye. If you follow a few processing instructions, you can achieve great effects and quickly let furniture in need of renovation shine again in new splendor. That saves a lot of money.

Cover furniture with decorative foils - this is how it is optimal

1. First measure the size of the area to be glued and transfer the measurements to the back of the decorative film. The printed grid helps to keep right angles and to transfer the measurements.
2. Long, straight cuts are best made with a cutter and cutting guide. Use scissors to cut out curved parts as precisely as possible. Nail scissors are helpful for filigree cuts.
3. Do not pull off the protective film completely before sticking it on, only loosen an area of ​​about 5 cm. This allows you to attach the decorative film more easily and precisely.
4. The protective film is now gradually peeled off and the film is only lightly placed on the furniture surface at first. So you can if necessary still carry out corrections if the decorative film is not yet perfectly in place.
5. If the film is optimally aligned, it is smoothed out from the center to the edges and pressed flat in the process.
6. If small air bubbles have formed during gluing, you can carefully pin them with a fine needle and smooth them out.
7. If you have to attach strips, the transitions become almost invisible and seamless if you place the decorative foils at the transitions approx. Glue 3 cm overlapping. The two layers of film are then severed together and carefully peeled off.
8. Rounded corners and edges on pieces of furniture are best covered with decorative film with the help of a hairdryer. The film is warmed up with the hair dryer in the appropriate places and is thus supple and a little stretchable. Glue the corresponding area as long as the film is warm and then press the decorative film lightly with a soft cloth until it has cooled down completely.
9. If the result does not meet your expectations, you can easily remove the film from the piece of furniture again if you heat the film with the hairdryer. A large part of the adhesive strength is lost when it is peeled off and the film can warp. Therefore it should not be used again afterwards.

To clean your furniture with decorative foils, you should only use a damp cloth with a drop of washing-up liquid. Some other cleaners can destroy the film surface or remove the paint.
