Build your own weatherproof tables for outside

Tables for outside should be very weatherproof if possible. Therefore, you should make them in such a way that neither rain nor snow can harm you.

What you need:

  • 1 x circular saw
  • 2 x oak boards 10 cm x 180 cm x 80 cm A 1 and A 2
  • 1 x joint cutter
  • 4 x oak boards 10 cm x 80 cm x 80 cm B 1 and B 2
  • 2 x cross struts 10 cm x 10 cm x 140 cm C 1 and C 2
  • 1 x orbital sander
  • 1 x fine sandpaper
  • 1 x can of wood protection primer
  • 1 x can of impregnation agent
  • 8 x steel angles
  • 25 x wood screws
  • 1 x can of wood glue

Cut tables for outside

With these instructions you should actually be able to build two wooden tables for outside yourself without any difficulties.

  1. The two tables for outside are first given two large table tops A 1 and A 2 that you cut out of oak. Mill a 5 cm deep joint in the two oak table tops on each side 20 cm from the 80 cm outer sides. The joints are each milled 10 cm wide. The base plates will later be embedded in these two joints.
  2. These base plates B 1 to B 4 are also cut from oak and should be made next. To reinforce your tables for outside, two cross braces C 1 and C 2 are cut, which are later fixed between two base plates with strong steel angles.
  3. When you have done that, take an orbital sander and very fine sandpaper and completely sand the oak wood of your two tables for outside.

The assembly of your outdoor furniture is carried out

  1. After you have sanded the two tables for outside, the oak wood is coated with a layer of wood protection primer. This wood preservative primer is supposed to prevent pests and fungi from getting to you wood walk. Then, when the wood protection primer has dried properly, lightly roughen the wood again.

  3. Then paint the entire wood with a special impregnation agent, which you purchased in advance at your trusted hardware store. After impregnation, the wood should actually be protected from snow and rain.
  4. You are now ready to begin assembling the two outdoor tables. Screw the cross brace between two base plates. The cross struts are screwed to the inside of the legs, each at a height of 40 cm, in the middle with steel brackets so that you now have the two frames for the tables in front of you.
  5. Then you spread wood glue in the joints of the table tops of your tables for outside and put the joints on your base plates. After the legs have slid 5 cm deep into the joints, you just have to wait until the wood glue has dried and the two tables for outside are ready.
