How do you dismantle a faucet?

If the old washbasin fitting is unsightly, or even worse, leaks completely, you should have your tool case ready to dismantle the defective faucet. While you're at it, you can still remove the corner valves, as these are usually in a similar condition to the tap.

Dismantling a defective faucet is no rocket science, even for the layman.

What you need:

  • Water pump pliers
  • blowtorch
  • Hacksaw
  • bucket
  • Rag
  • screwdriver
  • Cleaning agent against lime and dirt, e.g. B. Vinegar essence

Not only unsightly faucets have to be removed, but above all the single-lever mixers most commonly used today. Since these have ceramic seals, they can hardly be repaired if they are calcified. If the angle valves turn or can no longer be moved, this expansion can be done at the same time. And this is how you proceed:

The angle valves are dismantled before the tap

  1. So that the room is not flooded during work, shut off the water supply for hot and cold water completely.
  2. Place a bucket under the siphon and unscrew it.
  3. Now carefully pull the pipe out of the wall, making absolutely sure that the rubber seals are not lost. You may still need this for the new siphon if no seals were supplied with it.
  4. Now saw through the pipes just above the corner valves.
  5. Dismantling the single-lever mixer - this is how it works

Single-lever mixers are practical and can be found in almost every kitchen or bathroom. …

  6. Now try to screw the angle valves out of the wall with the water pump pliers. Sometimes it happens that the copper pipe moves with the wall or bends.
  7. In this case, you need to heat the angle valve so that the hemp, which sits on the thread as a sealant, burns. Heat the angle valve with a blowtorch until the hemp is burned. Now you can easily unscrew the angle valve. Warning: the valve is very hot !!
  8. Make sure that the remaining internal thread in the wall is completely free of hemp residues.

The faucet and its eccentric fittings are dismantled

  1. Loosen the screw between the eccentric valve and the linkage and pull it backwards out of the pipe socket. Loosen the second screw on the rod and push it up.
  2. Now turn the pipe socket of the eccentric valve out of the sink. If the valve ring rotates in the sink, insert a screwdriver into the recesses on the inside of the ring to hold it in place. Now you can easily unscrew the entire valve from the sink.
  3. Remove the debris from the opening in the sink.
  4. Before you dismantle the tap, you should install the new angle valves and test them for leaks.
  5. When this is done, loosen the screw with which the faucet is attached to the sink. This is located under the washbasin.
  6. Bend the sawn-off pipes together to fit through the hole in the vanity. Now pull the tap up and out of the sink.
  7. After the washbasin has been carefully cleaned of deposits, the new faucet and the new eccentric fittings can now be installed.
