A special kind of bed frame - a place of relaxation, self-made.

What you need:

  • Y-Tong stones
  • Squared lumber
  • Glued wood panels
  • drilling machine
  • drill
  • Dowels
  • Screws
  • Glue for aerated concrete
  • Slatted frame
  • Folding rule

Anyone can build a bed frame of 2x2m themselves

You don't need to save long for the next bed, but neither is it for everyone. But hold something different. But now to the procedure.

  1. You need 12 Ytong stones with the dimensions 499 x 299 x 150 mm. With eight of the stones you make four angles. Please use some quick glue for aerated concrete blocks. The long side of the stones lies on the floor and the 299 mm is your bed height. When working there is certainly dirt, hence the gluing in one garage or similar.
  2. The remaining four stones are glued together twice in a T-shape. Please note the symmetry.
  3. Now take two squared timbers measuring 60 x 60 x 2140 mm and drill three holes from the top at each end. Leave a distance of 100 mm from the ends for the first hole, then the next is 200 mm and the last is 300 mm.
  4. Another strip of the 60 x 60 mm strips is cut to a length of 2020 mm and the holes are drilled in the same way as the others.
  5. Build the slatted frame yourself - this is how it works

You probably know that, your children love to use the bed as a bouncy castle. Indeed …

  6. The last two 60 x 60 mm transverse timbers are sawn off at a length of 1900 mm and provided with three holes from above at the ends. Distance also always 100 mm.
  7. Now it comes to the final assembly. The angles are placed with the longer leg in the "lying direction" and the T’s are placed in the middle of the head and foot area. The squared timbers are placed in the middle of the legs in such a way that the total bed frame dimensions are around 2120 x 2120 mm. When you are finished, you have a square figure eight in front of you and the bed frame now has an internal dimension of 2x2 m.
  8. Please check whether the diagonal dimensions are correct. You do this by measuring the corners crosswise. If the values are the same, then it goes on.
  9. Now transfer the holes from the square timbers to the stones. wood down and off we go with drilling. You can use a wood drill because the aerated concrete is extremely soft - but switch off the hammer mechanism of the drill.
  10. Put dowels in the holes, put the wood back on, take a quick look at the diagonal and then screw the whole thing together with countersunk screws. They should already have a length of 100 mm and a diameter of 6.3 mm.
  11. Where the middle square timber meets those of the head and foot sections, please connect with screws. Use the screws from point 9 and do not pre-drill the head or Forgot the foot section.
  12. Now make panels out of 18 mm thick glued wood on the outside. The tops for the head and foot sections are 1960 mm long. You can determine the height yourself, but the panels should end just below the top edge of the mattress. The side walls must be 2160 mm x the desired size. At 2160 mm you can still use a few millimeters as tolerance compensation. Back wall screws are best suited for screwing, as these can be screwed to the square timbers without pre-drilling.
  13. Quickly put a slatted frame and bedding on it.
  14. Now you can finally go to sleep. But you really deserve it.

If you want your bed frame of 2x2 m even more colorful, then use paint and a brush. Anyone who has such a bed is an individualist. Have fun building.
