VIDEO: Do your own engine wash

instagram viewer

Of the engine a car can become dirty over time from oil and other grime. Then an engine wash is due. You can do it yourself, of course, but you must never do it at home. An engine wash is only permitted where the water can drain into the sewer system. There must also be an oil separator in the drain. Water contaminated with oil and cleaning agents must never seep into the wild.

This is how you do the engine wash yourself

  • After you have found a suitable place to wash the engine, drive your vehicle there and let the engine cool down first. Under no circumstances should you clean the engine while it is still hot. This would lead to the engine cooling down quickly. This could damage some components.
  • There are two different ways to clean the engine. You can spray the entire engine with an engine cleaner and wait a bit. Then spray the engine with a high-pressure cleaner. A better option is to apply the detergent directly with the pressure washer.
  • However, you should not aim the jet of water from the high-pressure cleaner directly at electronic components. The pressure should not be set so high anyway. A hard jet of water can sometimes damage seals. Of course, you also have to be careful not to splash water into the air filter.
  • If you are not familiar with using a high-pressure cleaner, it is better not to wash the engine yourself.
