Almost everyone has taken rose water at some point; in marzipan. Rose water is an important ingredient in this sweet treat. Rose water is also used for flavoring in some dishes in Indian, Arabic or Iranian cuisine.

Making rose water from rose petals

  1. To make 1/2 liter of rose water, you need a total of 4 handfuls of unsprayed rose petals. You will need half of it immediately, the other half in 3 days. Therefore, do not collect all the flowers at once.
  2. Place a whole flower at a time on a cutting board and use a knife to cut off the light-colored flower base, as this part of the rose flower is often bitter. Then check the individual petals again.
  3. Pour 1/2 liter of distilled water into a saucepan and add the petals. Put a lid on the pot and put it in a warm place for 3 days.
  4. Pour off the rose water through a sieve and discard the collected petals. Then pour the rose water back into the pot and add 2 handfuls of petals again. Let the rose water steep for another week.
  5. Make your own moisturizer - this is how it works with almond oil

You can easily make a moisturizer yourself and use it all year round ...

  6. You can then strain the rose water and use it. The best thing to do is to fill it in a bottle and put it in the refrigerator.
