Convert records to MP3
Records have been experiencing a renaissance for a number of years and are available again in stores. There are still good turntables to buy. If you still want to digitize your good old discs, you can convert them to MP3 format. There are different possibilities.
Perhaps you have ever wanted music digitize old records that are no longer available in stores. This preserves the quality and gives you the option of listening to the tracks on an MP3 player or burning them to a CD. There are two good ways to go digital. You can connect the turntable to one computer or you can buy a turntable with a USB port.
Digitize records with the PC
- Connect a commercially available turntable to a corresponding port on your Sound card at.
- Open a program that allows you to record music from an external source. Select the turntable as the external source.
- Decide in which folder and file format the music should be saved. You should use a separate folder for each record.
- Get the records you want to digitize ready and start with the first record. Put this in the turntable and start it.
- Press the recording button in your recording program.
- When one side has played, stop recording, turn the record over, and start recording the second side. Once this has passed, you have digitized the music on the record.

Use a turntable with USB for digitization
- Place the record on the turntable and insert a USB stick into the appropriate slot. On most models, a small lamp indicates that the USB stick is recognized. You can find out what size this can be from the information in the operating instructions.
- Start playing the record. If a USB stick is plugged in, the recording starts automatically. This is indicated by the light flashing.
- When the playback is finished, the recording will also stop. Proceed as described with the second side and with other records.
When digitizing records, note that one page is initially recorded as a single title. With an appropriate program, you can divide the tracks after the recording so that each track is available as an individual MP3 file.
