VIDEO: Whistle with your fingers

There are three main ways to whistle your fingers. Either you whistle with both hands and four fingers, which is a little easier at first, or with one hand and two fingers. Very experienced people can whistle with just one finger.

How to whistle with your fingers

  • For starters, it's best to practice with both hands. Extend your two index and middle fingers. Turn your palms towards you and let your middle fingers be approx. touch at a 60 ° angle. Take it in your mouth and close it loosely. Fold your tongue back slightly and support this with your fingers. Make sure that your index fingers completely seal the corners of your mouth. As you exhale, imagine the air whistling through the hole made by your tongue and roof of your mouth. Vary your finger position, tongue, lips, and exhalation speed until you hear a whistle. As you practice more often, you will be able to whistle louder and clearer.
  • Whistling with just one hand takes a little more practice than whistling with both hands, but it is similar in principle. Shape your thumb and forefinger into an O. Put them in your mouth and again make sure that the corners of your mouth are hermetically sealed. Press lightly with your fingers against your back-angled tongue and whistle through the gap that has formed.

  • Maybe you can whistle with just one finger. Again, use your finger to create an abutment for the tongue. Due to the asymmetry and the fact that it is difficult to seal the corners of the mouth, this really takes a lot of practice.
