Anyone who owns an older house will gradually expand and remodel it. Often, however, you notice in basement rooms, for example, that the floor is damaged and at the same time uneven. This means that there is no need to simply lay floor coverings; the unevenness of the floor must first be leveled out. Depending on the condition of the floor, you can choose between screed or leveling compound.

Process floors with leveling compound
- If there are unevenness on the floor to be repaired of a maximum of 3 cm, you can work with leveling compound. However, it is essential to pay attention to the manufacturer's instructions, because some products can only be processed up to a thickness of 1 cm.
- First, apply a primer to the floor that you spread with a street broom.
- After the primer has dried slightly, empty the mixed leveling compound on the work surface. Spread it out quickly before it starts to freeze. You can pound bubbles with a broomstick.

Level out unevenness with screed
- Because leveling compound is easier to process for home users and, above all, much shorter If you need drying times, you should only decide to use the screed if there are differences in level of more than 3 cm decide.
- There are many different types of screed that can be installed by DIY enthusiasts, including cement screed and dry screed.
- Dry screed has unsurpassed advantages, such as B. the elimination of the drying time and the associated time savings; however, it is not an issue for uneven floors, as it can only be laid out on completely flat floors. The most commonly used type of screed is cement screed, which is also quite easy to lay for do-it-yourselfers. Caution is advised, however, because this coating may only be used for surfaces up to approx. 35 sqm must be laid, otherwise cracks can appear.
- If you have quickly applied the screed to the floor according to the manufacturer's instructions, pull it off with a measuring stick to avoid unevenness. Then the covering must be kept moist for at least 72 hours.
