Buyers of old buildings usually have to renovate a lot. This is not limited to laying laminate and wallpapering, but begins with plastering and straightening the floor. The last-mentioned work in particular is easy for inexperienced craftsmen to use with a special leveling compound.

Before using the leveling compound

  • There are also big differences between the various leveling weights. When buying, pay attention to which level inequalities the mass has to compensate for. Is it only 10 mm or even 25 mm?
  • Some products are only suitable for bumps of up to one centimeter, some can also cope with three centimeters. If there are larger differences in level, it becomes more difficult, as you first have to work with screed or certain repair mortars.
  • When buying, be sure to note how long you have to process before the leveling compound sets. If you do not have any experience, you should choose a product with the longest possible setting time, otherwise you are still mixing when the mass begins to solidify. A longer setting time is also useful for large work surfaces.

Floor leveling workflow

  1. Attach edge insulation strips to the walls. Use glue or a stapling machine to do this. The insulation strips prevent the leveling compound from tearing later when the material moves or it prevents the transmission of sound.

  3. Mix the primer according to the manufacturer's instructions. Strictly adhere to the specified mixing ratio.
  4. Pour the milky primer piece by piece onto the floor and spread it over with a broom.
  5. While the primer liquid dries slightly, mix the leveling compound according to the manufacturer's instructions. Use a whisk attached to the drill to mix.
  6. Pour the mixture onto the slightly damp primer as quickly as possible.
  7. Spread the mass with a pusher, then carefully remove any bubbles that may have formed with the broom. Make sure, however, that the leveling compound does not already set, otherwise you will have new unevenness in the floor.
  8. Shorten the unnecessary parts of the edge insulation strips.
  9. You should wait around two weeks before laying the floor tiles.
