The Schokoticket is an inexpensive monthly ticket for schoolchildren from the Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Ruhr and can be chosen for different areas. You should take a close look at them and choose them wisely.

Basics about the chocolate ticket

In general, the same areas as for other VRR tickets apply to the chocolate ticket, whereby the following should be noted:

  • The chocolate ticket is only available for areas D North, D South and the entire area of the VRR called E.
  • If you only need a ticket for a smaller area, such as C, trips between two neighboring tariff zones, the chocolate ticket is still cheaper than a normal monthly ticket.
  • Of course, you have to choose the chocolate ticket for the area where you live and the school is located, otherwise it won't do you any good. But no matter where you live, you always have the choice between the corresponding D area or the entire E. Depending on where you live, you can also consider both D-areas.

When choosing the area of the chocolate ticket, you should look carefully.

Choose the area wisely

Download the map from Composite room and take a close look at the location of tariff zones D North, D South and E.

  • Tariff area E covers the entire tariff area of the VRR, but areas D not only include part of the tariff area, but also adjacent tariff areas. So it may be that you are better served with a D-Ticket than with an E-Ticket.
  • If you live in area D south, you can take the chocolate ticket E to Emmerich, Kleve and Kranenburg drive, so far to the north, but you cannot go to neighboring Schwerte or Wegberg with it reach. Pay close attention to the western and eastern regions in tariff area. You will see the difference there. With the ticket for D Süd you can also travel in parts of the tariff system of the Ruhr-Lippe transport association and the Aachen transport association.
  • It is similar if you have the choice between E and D North. With the Schokoticket for the D Nord area, you can also use parts of the Netherlands' route network in the west and as far as Bocholt in the east.
  • Especially if you live in the middle of the tariff area, you should think carefully about which areas you choose for your chocolate ticket. If you live in Duisburg, for example, you can use all 3 areas. With D Nord you cannot reach the neighboring Ratingen, but you can drive to Venlo and reach all areas north of Duisburg. With D Süd or E ist you can get to all surrounding places, but not to the Netherlands.

Take a close look at the map with regard to the differences mentioned and consider what is more important for you personally, which areas you need and want to reach.
