Winter is the season in which many hobby craftsmen prepare their garden furniture for next spring. If you are one of those people too, you could, for example, cut slices of wood and turn them into garden seats. With a little skill you can have a new eye-catcher for the garden for little money.

What you need:

  • 1 x oak log
  • 1 x saw
  • 1 x drill
  • 1 x wood drill
  • 1 x brush
  • 1 x can of wood preservative
  • 1 x can of clear varnish
  • 5 x long bolts and nuts
  • 3 x galvanized steel plates
  • 3 x galvanized square tubes
  • 1 x long steel plate
  • 1 x metal drill
  • 1 x welding machine
  • 1 x stop bracket
  • 1 x tape measure

Sawing wood slices

In order to guarantee the longest possible lifespan for future garden seats, you should choose a high-quality type of wood for your wooden panels. You will then also need a small frame on which you can then attach your seats. Perhaps you will create a small construction drawing so that you always have an overview.

  1. The actual garden seats take up the least time. You take a round piece of oak, 60 cm long, and cut out five 10 cm thick slices.
  2. The diameter of the log should be 30 cm. You have now made the actual seats. However, so that you can then attach them to your metal frame, you should now drill 8 mm holes in the middle of the wooden seats.
  3. At the top, the holes are countersunk a little with a wooden countersink so that the screw heads no longer protrude from the wood. Then paint the garden seats first with wood preservative and then with a layer of clear varnish. After that is also done, you should now devote yourself to the actual frame of your garden seats.

Build the frame for the garden seats

  1. For the legs of your frame, cut three 10 cm x 10 cm galvanized square tubes with a wall thickness of 5 mm to a length of 40 cm. In the next step, cut 3 galvanized steel plates with a thickness of 1 cm as base plates for these feet. The dimensions are each 60 cm x 60 cm. Now place a square tube vertically on a base plate and make small tack welds.
  2. Shelf to hang up boats, build it yourself

  3. The square tubes should sit exactly in the middle of the base plates. After you have aligned the square tubes, you can completely weld the parts. Now you still need a steel plate on which you can attach your seats. For this purpose, cut a 2 cm thick galvanized steel plate to a size of 20 cm x 200 cm. Distribute 5 holes over the 200 cm length, which should be equally spaced from one another.
  4. Then the legs are welded under the steel plate. How you divide the legs on the steel plate is up to you - just make sure that you don't block a hole for your seat discs. After the frame is ready, you can screw on your wooden discs and your new garden seats are ready for use.
