A stone grill is something that lasts forever. If you want to build it yourself, you need a lot of skill, sufficient time and a sturdy foundation.

  1. First dig an area of 100 x 100 cm approx. 18 cm deep in your garden. This is the area for your foundation that you need for your stone grill.
  2. Place the construction mat in the excavation. Line the mat with small stones in some places so that the mat is about 5-8 cm from the ground. Then fasten the construction mat with the fastening hooks.
  3. Mix the mortar in a keg and pour the mortar into the excavation. When the excavation is filled with mortar, smooth the mortar with a roof batten. Then check the evenness of the foundation with the spirit level.
  4. The foundation takes 3-4 days to harden. Please moisten the surface several times a day so that there are no cracks in the foundation.

Now build your round grill out of stone

  1. Place a keg with the opening facing down in the middle of the foundation.
  2. Mix the mortar in the second keg. Place a layer of mortar about 2 cm thick around the keg on the foundation.
  3. Put the natural stones in the mortar layer. The joints between the natural stones can also be compacted with mortar.
  4. Put another 2 cm thick layer of mortar on the first stone ring and place the natural stones for the second stone ring. Now continue in this way until the masonry stone cylinder has a height of approx. 80 cm. Please check the outer wall of the stone cylinder regularly with the spirit level so that it is also built straight up. You can also use the spirit level to check whether the height of the stone cylinder is even. Differences in height can be leveled out in advance by adding or removing mortar.
  5. When the masonry of the cylinder is finished, wash the outside thoroughly with water. This will wash out the joints evenly.
  6. On the bottom of the keg, which is still in the stone cylinder, you now wall a closed layer of stone. Fill the joints well with mortar and wash off this layer thoroughly with the sponge. This layer of stone is the surface for the charcoal to lie on.

Your stone grill is ready. The grill now only has to dry out completely and you still have to put the grillage on the upper stone ring. And you're ready to grill on your new stone grill.
