You can tidy up a room much faster if you go to work systematically instead of just moving everything from one side to the other and then putting everything back again.

Systematic tidying up quickly eliminates the chaos.

  • vacuum cleaner

Basic planning when tidying up rooms

If you always follow the rules below when tidying up a room, the system will work by itself:

  1. First, remove everything that does not belong in the room.
  2. Think about what goes where and make written notes if necessary.
  3. Empty cupboards should be cleaned out before you put anything in them. This will save you time.
  4. Avoid picking up objects multiple times. Whatever you have in your hand is placed as directly as possible in its place.
  5. Keeping the room tidy - this is how it works systematically

You like to have your room tidy, but somehow you keep sinking into ...

  6. If you do a lot of things e.g. B. need to move into a closet that is difficult to reach, collect them in one place. This is the only exception to rule 4.
  7. Finally, clean the floor of the room.

With this system, tidying up the room becomes a breeze.

This is a systematic approach

  1. Take two or more large garbage bags and write on them: "Garbage". "Recyclable material", "laundry", "other room 1" etc. If you have items in the room that you need to clean up that need to be in the bedroom, write "bedroom" on it. If something needs to go into the living room, you need a sack for this room.
  2. Systematically walk around the room and throw everything into the appropriate bags. If you need to distribute sensitive items for other rooms, stack these items separately by room near the door.
  3. You now transport garbage and recyclables to the appropriate bins, the dirty laundry to Washing machine or in the laundry bin and the items that don't belong in the room where they belong.
  4. During this work, you can immediately think about where to put the things that still remain in the room. If there are a lot of things, take notes. Then tidying up the room with a system is even easier.
  5. Now wipe the cupboards, depending on how dirty it is, a duster is sufficient, otherwise you have to wipe the cupboards with a damp cloth. While the cupboards are drying, you can put the things that are still lying around in the cupboards that are dry or Sort by cupboards or shelves and bring them close to the places where the things belong.
  6. Now pack everything in the place where it belongs and wipe the outer cabinet surfaces, tables and window sills etc. away. Finally, clean the floor of the room.

With this system, even with a totally chaotic room, you can finish tidying up the room within a few hours.

Particular problems with systematic room tidying

  • Loose sheets of paper should be neatly stapled in a file folder. Here it usually makes sense to place the sheets next to or to push between the folders and only finally to file everything together properly.
  • If you find items that need ironing or mending, do not put them in a closet, but in appropriate baskets. Do the work as soon as the room is tidy and then put things where they belong.

If you get used to "leaving things behind for a while" and use a trash can sensibly, you will quickly notice the next time you clean up your room according to this system that it is very quick goes.
